Cawthra Mulock Nature Reserve Restoration Project
April ??, 2018
I am reaching out to your scouts groups in the Newmarket area from Ontario Nature, an environmental charity.
We own a nature reserve at Bathurst and Green Lane called Cawthra Mulock Nature Reserve.
Every year, we conduct restoration work on our properties. This year we are pulling periwinkle plants in April (date tbd) and were wondering if this was an opportunity any scouts groups in this area would be interested in participating in.
Perwinkle is a non-native an invasive species that threatens native plants. It creates a dense monoculture on the forest floor and out-competes other native species. To prevent its spread, we invite you to join us and roll up your sleeves to pull out this pesky plant.
The event usually lasts from 10am-3pm, but we can adjust the time based on the ability and willingness of participants. We are also flexible on the date (weekday or weekend) depending on the group.
Please let me know if this event is of interest to you. You can find out more about our organization by clicking this link.
